Review: 'Safehouse' (2011)

A gang of petty thieves are chased and penned into their hideout by the police after a job-gone-wrong. They soon find themselves unwillingly becoming live 'test subjects' for a new, high-tech police weapon. 'Safehouse' is written and directed by Ryan Braund. The acting ranges from bad to pretty decent. The camerawork and editing is pretty good considering the fact that this was made in a very tight budget. The soundtrack is good. The pacing is pretty decent. It´s pretty violent with several shoot outs but sadly the action sequences aren´t very well made but I must say that I´ve seen far worse. There is no gore in this, there is very brief computer rendered squibs in one scene and I must say that this is a huge disapppointment. That scene, which reminded me somewhat of the famous ED-209 test that goes wrong in the classic Robocop movie, could have been so great but now it falls flat. Add to this that almost all kills are off screen but I guess that this is due to the very limited budget. The new police weapon is actually pretty cool, especially considering that it has been designed on a shoestring budget but some of its abilities are a bit far fetched (I won´t go into spoilers). There is no T & A in this.
This review is based upon a public online source uploaded by the filmmakers on youtube
Rating: 1½ out of 7. Even if it has its flaws you gotta admire the ambition and effort put into this. it´s been in the making for two and a half years (most of the flick was made in the summer of 2010) and is made on a budget of approx 800 USD (current currency).
