DVD review: Amazon Force (2007)

Natasha and Vivian are members of a top secret special unit belonging to the U.S. military. A unit consisting only of women and is used everywhere, where men would fail. The unit is known as the "Amazon Force". The target of their latest mission is Dr. Dick, a Terrorist, who has long been a thorn in the side of the the U.S. government, and recently attracted attention due to some extremely puzzling activities. He is accompanied by his troupe of muscle men who obey him blindly. The two women follows his trail to the small Pacific island Ling Long. There they discover a secret that constitutes a danger to the whole world. Will they be able to thwart the Doctor's plans ...? Amazon Force is written and directed by Andreas Eisele. The acting is bad. The camerawork and editing is pretty decent. One problem with Amazon force is the pacing, it takes a little while to get going but after that it´s more or less action non stop. We even get a twist, although it wasn´t much of a surprise. The action is pretty lackluster even if I forgive them for using airsoftguns, jerking the guns to simulate firing them and adding computer rendered muzzle flashes in post production. The fightscenes including swordplay are badly choreographed. There is some computer rendered fx, namely for electric shocks and when a helicopter flies across the sky. There is no gore in this, only a few squibs. There is, strangely, no T & A in this (I kinda was expecting at least something considering the plot and the artwork for the DVD). Sorry to say it but the girl on the front of the DVD cover isn´t in the movie.
This review is based upon the region 2 DVD release from Maximum Uncut Productions. It´s uncut and german language only.
Rating: 0½ out of 7. No, this was not good. I thought, based on the cover, that this could be a really entertaining flick but it fails. I´m a big fan of though gun-toting women on screen, been it ever since we saw Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor in Terminator 2. The actresses aren´t believable as the top secret soldiers they are intended to be, it would have been cool if they´d learned som basic fire and movement techniques, that some effort had been made to make it look like they were skilled fighters. The actionsequences that make up a large portion of it fail to deliever, the filmmakers should have spent the majority of the budget/resources on making those scenes. And if you make a flick about girls with guns you should give the viewer some eyecandy, a little bit of T & A.
